(intense music) Narrator: Fever, a dry cough, difficulty breathing, these are all symptoms of a COVID-19 coronavirus infection. If you have these symptoms, stay home and away from others, and call your healthcare provider to determine if you should be tested for COVID-19. The test is nothing to be scared of. A cotton swab will be inserted into your nose or throat only deep enough to reach the membranes where viruses grow. This might be a bit uncomfortable, but there’s no danger or risk to being tested. The test is safely packaged, cataloged, and sent to a licensed and accredited clinical diagnostic laboratory for processing. Viruses contain genetic material just like us. The laboratory will use a process called polymerase chain reaction, or PCR, to determine if viral genetic material is present. If it’s there, it means you’ve been infected. In about 48 hours, your doctor will reach out to you with the results and advise you on getting the care you need. In the meantime, get some rest and be sure to wash your hands.
